ST. WOLFGANG
There is hardly a place that has been sung about as often as St. Wolfgang. But the pilgrimage site owes its fame to more than just the famous operetta.
Shrouded in legend, culturally significant and historically on everyone's lips for several thousand years, St. Wolfgang is a very special place - yet the village on the Upper Austrian side of Lake Wolfgangsee is the smallest of the three communities bordering the turquoise-green Salzkammergut lake.
Situated at the foot of the Schafberg and with the glistening lake in front of it, St. Wolfgang offers a wide range of options for all vacationers.
Whether water sports, cycling tours, hikes, culture or culinary delights - there is something for everyone here in every season. If you are looking for special activities, we will be happy to arrange contacts or organize bookings.
WOLFGANGSEE
The lake, originally christened "Abersee", stretches between some of the most beautiful mountains in the Salzkammergut.
Its surface area is around 13 km2 and welcomes most visitors on its western side coming from Mondsee or Salzburg, just above St. Gilgen, with a magnificent appearance. The majority of the lake lies in the province of Salzburg, while the small part belongs to St. Wolfgang and therefore to Upper Austria.
If you would like to know a few more special facts about Lake Wolfgangsee: the deepest point is 114 meters below its turquoise-green surface, its capacity is around 670 million cubic meters and it is one of the cleanest lakes in Austria with drinking water quality. On the northern shore of Lake Wolfgangsee and at the foot of the Zwölferhorn lies a place that has retained the charm of times long past. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's family originated here, as his mother was a native of St. Gilgner.
However, the village has a lot more history and traditions to offer, which can be experienced in the local history museum, as well as wonderful and unique places, such as the idyllic bay near the Fürberg district. For those who prefer a breezy ride, the newly built Zwölferhorn cable car takes you up the local mountain of the Wolfgangsee community.
In the garden of the European monastery Gut Aich, located on the way to Mondsee, around a hundred herbs are cultivated and refined according to centuries-old recipes that have been handed down over the centuries - a visit is definitely worthwhile.
STROBL
The tranquil village of Strobl lies on the southern shore of Lake Wolfgangsee. The special natural landscape with its moors, unspoilt beaches and the widely scattered alpine pastures - especially on the Postalm, Austria's largest alpine pasture area - provide holidaymakers with an incomparable experience.
Extensive hikes, bike tours, concerts on the lakeside promenade, operetta evenings or various sports in winter, from skiing and cross-country skiing to tube riding in the Postalm winter park: there is a huge variety of leisure activities on offer at any time of year not far from the vacation apartments at Balthasar Volcano.
Salzburg
The slogan "The stage of the world" is no coincidence, as the name of the city of Mozart stands for art and culture like probably no other in the world and therefore needs no further explanation. Of course, Salzburg has much more to offer, so there is plenty of variety and opportunities depending on the weather.
These include the trick fountains in Hellbrunn, Hohensalzburg Fortress, which can be reached either on foot or by cable car, the world-famous Getreidegasse, the Gaisberg excursion mountain, the Museum of Modern Art, the House of Nature and Salzburg Zoo.
Only about an hour's drive from the vacation accommodation at Balthasar Volcano, the festival city of Salzburg offers great views and a variety of options. For further sights and tips on events, please refer to the following page:

Hallstatt
Hallstatt is undisputedly the "archaeological heart" of the famous World Heritage region.
The historic town center conveys a unique flair - probably everyone has already seen various pictures of this place on various social media channels, which also gives its name to the so-called Hallstatt period. Incidentally, the oldest salt mine in the world is located here at the upper end of Lake Hallstatt.
In addition to the many cultural and tourist attractions, the scenic surroundings almost at the foot of the Dachstein are also worth a visit, as the Echerntal, for example, impresses with its very own beauty and invites you to hikes and exploration tours around this important place.
